The Coldest Day In Years In Eastern PA, Then More Snow: Forecast

An Arctic air mass descending from central Canada is bringing a chill the region hasn't seen in years.

EASTERN PA — The frigid Arctic blast hitting the greater Philadelphia area on Tuesday and Tuesday night will likely mark the coldest air in the region in three years, forecasters said. It hits the region as the possibility of another snowstorm looms in the days ahead.

High temperatures are expected to be in the high teens and low 20s for much of the suburbs Tuesday, as an Arctic airmass, which originated from central Canada, sweeps through. Furthermore, "the brisk northwest wind will make it feel about 10 to 15 degrees colder than the actual air temperature," the National Weather Service said.

That means that the wind chill will hover right around zero, and maybe below zero, for parts of southeastern Pennsylvania. Not since Feb. 1, 2019 has such cold air been felt in the region, according to forecasters.

The blast will not last long: things will warm up to a highs of upper 30s by Wednesday and the 40s by Thursday.

This weekend will bring another chance of snow, though it's not clear yet how likely, or how powerful, that storm will be. Accuweather's preliminary forecast notes that it's not expected to be severe. "A clipper system (could) dive out of Canada and bring some light snow to the Great Lakes and Northeast during the second half of the week," they said. "Accumulations are anticipated to be light overall."
