A Convincing New Scam Targets Homeowners In Montgomery County
Scammers claim to offer residents a copy of their property records in exchange for exorbitant fees, officials said.

NORRISTOWN, PA — A new scam using convincing, "real-seeming" letterhead is trying to charge Montgomery County homeowners exorbitant fees for access to property records, county officials said Thursday.
The misleading mailer offers homeowners a "copy of their property assessment profile" and a "complimentary grant deed or other record of title" for $95.
“Don’t be misled by these real-seeming solicitations,” Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg said. “This company, and others like it, target unsuspecting homeowners, especially recent home buyers and the elderly.”

These records are all available from the county's Board of Assessment Property Records page for a small fee.
"There is no need to hire a third-party or pay exorbitant fees," Sorg said.
