Coronavirus Cases Top 5,000 In Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — More than 70 new cases of the coronavirus have been identified and nearly ten more deaths have been reported in Montgomery County.

New information released Saturday shows the county now has 5,010 cases of the virus as 73 new cases were reported Saturday.

Additionally, nine more people died from the virus, bringing the county's death total to 414.

"Thanks to the many personal sacrifices made by Montgomery County residents, our new case number from the community have plateaued, but we need to get those numbers to start to trend downward before we begin to relax restrictions," said Dr. Valerie A. Arkoosh, Chair, Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. "Please continue to stay home except for essential work or errands. We are all in this together, and together we will beat COVID-19."

Of the nine deaths, seven had been hospitalized, two were long-term care facility residents. Their ages ranged from 71 years old to 94 years old. Five were female and four were male.

The 73 positive individuals are from 29 municipalities.

Sixty-one municipalities have been affected.

Of the 72 new cases, ages range from 5 years old to 99 years old. Forty-six are women and 27 are men. At least two of the 73 new patients have been hospitalized

The next update on Montgomery County's coronavirus cases and mitigation efforts will be Monday.

Montgomery County’s drive-through COVID-19 testing location on the Central Campus of Montgomery County Community College will be closed on Sunday, May 10, for a safety stand down.

The testing site will re-open for the week on Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., by appointment only for individuals that meet the required criteria and as testing supplies allow. No treatment will be given on-site.
