Door-To-Door Dog License Canvass To Begin In Montgomery County

NORRISTOWN, PA — Is your dog properly licensed? Vaccinated for rabies? You better double check.

The Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement will be conducting a license and vaccination canvas across Montgomery County this spring. The canvas is scheduled to begin May 21 and continue for one week, officials said.

Wardens will go door-to-door across the county to check the status of residents' dog licenses and rabies vaccinations.

Residents with unlicensed dogs face fines of up to $300 per animal.

Owners of non-vaccinated pets can also be fined up to $300 per animal. Under Pennsylvania law, dogs and cats three months or older must have a current rabies vaccination.

In Pennsylvania, all dogs three months or older must be licensed annually by Jan. 1.

An annual license is $8.50 and a lifetime license is $51.50. If your dog is spayed or neutered, the annual fee is $6.50 and lifetime is $31.50.

You can also register your dog in person at the Montgomery County Office of the Treasurer or with one of several licensed agents in Montgomery County, including in Limerick, North Wales, Ardmore, King of Prussia, Limerick, Abington, Conshohocken, Pottstown, Glenside, or Perkiomenville.
