The off-duty officer had stopped to intervene in an argument, police said.

NORRISTOWN, PA — An off-duty police officer was shot Wednesday morning in Norristown after intervening in an argument on the street, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office said.
The incident occurred at 9:48 a.m. near the intersection of E. Airy Street and Dekalb Street.
Anthony Marano, who serves with the West Norriton Police Department, was driving when he stopped at that intersection and noticed the argument taking place, police said.

Marano tried to intervene in the quarrel, which involved 18-year-old Norristown resident Otis Kendrick and a woman, authorities said.
During the argument, Kendrick punched Marano's vehicle, police said. Marano then got out of his car, and that's when Kendrick took out a handgun and shot Marano once in the side, according to the DA.

After being shot, Marano disarmed Kendrick, who fled the area on foot, police said. Bridgeport Police took him into custody shortly thereafter.
