PHILADELPHIA, PA — Eagles head coach Doug Pederson has tested positive for coronavirus, the team confirmed in a statement late Sunday. It's the latest bit of bad news for the Eagles, who placed three players on the COVID-19 injured list in the past week.

Pederson, 52, is not showing any symptoms and is doing well, the team said.

It's not yet clear how many other Eagles interacted with Pederson and will need to quarantine. The Eagles said they are "following the protocols established by the NFL and the NFLPA. Any individuals in close contact with Pederson at our facility have been notified and will continue with daily testing procedures and compliance with all protocols before returning to the facility.

Lane Johnson tested positive for the virus earlier this week. Two other Eagles, linebacker Nate Gerry and tackle Jordan Mailata, were also added to the COVID-19 list, but the team did not confirm if they were positive or had just come into contact with someone who was.

The positives cast a continuing pall over the team and the league as the NFL works its way through preseason camp. The regular season remain scheduled to begin on time in September, but the new cases and the possibly untenable situation in Major League Baseball bring renewed focus to the health risks faced by players and staff.

Pederson is the second NFL head coach to test positive for the virus, after New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton.

Meanwhile, the Phillies have not played a game since last Sunday due to being quarantined after exposure to the Miami Marlins on opening weekend.
