PHILADELPHIA, PA — One of the preeminent football players in the world and the man who guided the Birds to the Super Bowl is now the highest-paid athlete in NFL history.
The Eagles signed Jalen Hurts to a historic five-year, $255 million contract on Monday, according to announcements from the team and media sources. The deal also includes the first no-trade clause in Eagles history.
A total of $179.304 is guaranteed money, NFL insiders report, with the rest coming in bonuses tied to either performance or longetivity. Hurts is slated to make an average of $51 million a year through the lifetime of the deal.

Still just 24, Hurts is at the top of the shortlist of favorites to win the NFL MVP in 2023 after his breakout 2022.
Hurts' deal tops the $230 million over five years given by the Cleveland Browns to Deshaun Watson, although that contract was fully guaranteed.
