East Norriton Pays Over $50k For 'Chronic' Sewage Spills: Report
There were 35 "incidents" within one township.

East Norriton paid $54,000 in fines for ”chronic” sewage overflows over the past four years, several of which went unreported initially, according to a Times Herald report.
The overflows spilled into backyards across the area, the report states.
Of 35 different incidents from January 2011 to June 2015, 10 of them were reported, according to the story.

“The events have resulted in discharges to the ground surface, and in certain instances into surface streams, waters of the commonwealth. Nineteen of the SSO events were not reported to the department,” official documents stated. ”There was a failure to provide for the proper operation of the wastewater system and a failure to comply with applicable laws, which constitutes a violation of the Water and Wastewater Systems Operators’ Certification Act.”
The fines were paid to the state Department of Environmental Protection.

Specific reasons were not given for why the events went unreported or what caused them, although some were attributed to storms. One official said that the administrator responsible, “had a lot on his plate,” according to the Times Herald.
