Eastern PA Snow Total Estimates Increase, Advisory Issued

The forecast for the storm coming to the greater Philadelphia region has intensified. See the latest details:

EASTERN PA — As the next major winter storm draws nearer to the greater Philadelphia area, forecasters have increased their estimates for its severity and total accumulation.

After initially forecasting two to three inches, estimates are now up to 4 to 6 inches for much of the southeastern Pennsylvania suburbs, with the possibility of a narrow storm band bringing even higher totals.

A winter weather advisory is in place from 10 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday. The bulk of the storm, and the heaviest snowfall, is expected to fall from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. Friday. Snow could fall at a rate of up to 2 inches an hour at the height of the storm.

Temperatures will be in the mid 20s to low 30s as snow falls overnight. Gale force winds are expected across the Atlantic coastal waters and Lower Delaware Bay.

The latest storm also comes a day after icy road conditions in some parts of the region led to numerous accidents.

The National Weather Service warns that the upcoming storm could cause more issues for the travelers on Friday.

"The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute," the weather service said. "Slow down and use caution while traveling.

Thursday

Partly sunny, with a high near 37. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday night

A chance of rain and snow before 11pm, then snow. Low around 28. West wind around 5 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Friday

Snow likely, mainly before 8am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 34. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Friday night

Mostly clear, with a low around 19. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph.

Saturday

Sunny, with a high near 33. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.

Mostly clear, with a low around 22.

Sunday

Rain, mainly after 2pm. High near 43. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
