Elmwood Park Zoo Mourns Passing Of Mojo, A Howler Monkey

Another beloved resident at Elmwood Park Zoo has passed away.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Another beloved resident at Elmwood Park Zoo has passed away. Mojo, the zoo's male howler monkey, died this week after complications during surgery.

Mojo, aged 15, had suffered a blood clot in his hind leg, and doctors performed the surgery in order to analyze the damage. It's not yet known what caused the clot, and the zoo is running tests to help determine what happened to Mojo.

Mojo was born in 2002 at the Cape May Zoo, and arrived in Norristown in 2008, zoo officials said.

He is particularly remembered for his exceptional "namesake howl" that boomed throughout the zoo and could be heard in the parking lot.

Mojo also loved sunny days, and flashed visitors a "toothy grin" whenever his name was called, zookeepers said.
