NORRISTOWN, PA — The coronavirus pandemic may have turned the world upside down in 2020, but the Elmwood Park Zoo is finding ways to keep the zoo a part of the local community.

Following a summer of online zoo events, virtual educational programming, and drive-thru safaris, the zoo is planning on holding several of its fall Halloween festivities, social distance style.

The Boo at the Zoo will be held each weekend day, every Saturday and Sunday, from Oct. 10 through Nov. 1. Trick or treat stations will be set up for children of all ages, and adults and children alike are encouraged to dress up in costumes and enter the costume contest.

Boo Just for You is a trick or treat event designed specially for children and families with special needs. Organizers describe it as a way to see the zoo in a "more relaxed setting, perfect for those with sensory sensitivities." It will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 9.

Finally, Trick or Treat Nights will be held Oct. 23, 29, and 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Adults and children are encouraged to dress up and trick and treat in a socially distanced manner around the zoo. A free carousel ride is included with each ticket.
