Elmwood Park Zoo's Beloved Gray Wolf, Uma, Has Died

The Elmwood Park Zoo announced Wednesday that their beloved gray wolf, Uma, had passed away.

NORRISTOWN, PA — The Elmwood Park Zoo announced Wednesday that their beloved gray wolf, Uma, had passed away.

Uma lived a long and healthy life, and was 16-years-old when she died. She was suffering from a lack of mobility and a degenerative spinal disease which zookeepers said is common in dogs and wolves her age. She was euthanized as her condition worsened.

"We were happy to give her a forever home, and she will be sorely missed," the zoo said in a statement Wednesday.

Uma arrived at Elmwood Park Zoo from the Omaha, Nebraska Henry Doorly Zoo in 2004.

She spent most of her life alongside her sister, Nox, who had passed away last summer.

Some of her favorite pursuits included chewing on toys in her spacious yard, or taking a nap in the sunny, warm grass, zookeepers said.

May she rest in peace.
