Elmwood Zoo Will Host 'Chopped' Style Competition - For Animals

"Chomped" will feature cooks racing to complete the best dish, which will be consumed by the zoo's animals.

NORRISTOWN, PA — There have been endless twists on and reincarnations of the popular cooking television show "Chopped," but none quite like this.

Elmwood Park Zoo's upcoming "Chomped" will feature cooks racing to complete the best dish, which will be consumed by the zoo's animals.

Student cooks from the Culinary Arts Institute of Montgomery County Community College will have 45 minutes to use pre-selected ingredients - including one secret ingredient - to create a signature dish.

This time, however, the judges and diners won't be human. They'll be capybaras.

The event will help raise awareness for the zoo's biggest fundraiser, the upcoming "Beast of a Feast," offering samples from the area's top restaurants.

“The Culinary Arts Institute of Montgomery County Community College takes the sense of community very seriously, and for that reason, we are always willing to partner with community members to provide live learning opportunities for our students that support places like Elmwood Park Zoo with their annual Beast of a Feast," said Ben Vosso, a culinary resource specialist at The Culinary Arts Institute.

The event will take place on May 19 at 9 a.m. during the "Breakfast with the Animals."
