Elmwood Park Zoo's New State Of The Art Animal Hospital Coming Together

Progress is well underway on the crown jewel of the zoo's new construction.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Construction on the new animal hospital and welcome center at Elmwood Park Zoo is well underway, with key aspects of the project now complete, the zoo shared.

The hospital, named the Frank and Paige Engro Veterinary Health Center, will be one of hte world's foremost, state-of-the-art facilities of its kind.

The 19,000 square foot building will feature a surgical suite, a diagnostic lab, indoor and outdoor recovery wards, a commissary, and a pharmacy.

A series of photos shared by the zoo over the weekend show the progress of the work, including a completed facade outside with a large leopard print wall and another wall featuring red hoof prints.

Inside the hospital, large viewing windows will allow zoo guests to watch veterinarians at work on various complex procedures. There will also be interactive displays for guests to better understand the workings of animal care at Elmwood.

Elmwood received a massive $30 million anonymous donation in Oct. 2022 to build the hospital and new welcome center.

The work is anticipated to be completed by some point this spring or summer, in time for the celebration activities surrounding the zoo's 100th birthday.
