Engineers Assessing Montco Road As Sinkholes Lead To More Restrictions

A major area highway has been reduced to a single lane as officials struggle to resolve an ongoing pothole crisis.

UPPER MERION, PA — Pothole problems continue to plague Montgomery County and Route 202, which has experienced another setback and another closure related to a series of sinkholes that opened up this month.

A stretch of the road, where it runs as Dekalb Pike, will see a southbound lane closure between Saulin Boulevard and Henderson Road. The announcement from PennDOT comes just a day after the same stretch of road was shut down heading northbound. Just a single lane of soubound 202 will remain open.

The closure will be in place "until PennDOT engineers can assess the extent of the new damage and develop a plan to perform additional repairs to reopen the highway safely," officials said.

A detour is in place sending motorists to Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard. Local access will be maintained.

Delays are expected, officials said, and motorists should allow for additional travel time.
