Extreme Heat Warning Renewed In Montgomery County

The "code red" declaration allows the county marshal services like emergency cooling shelters.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County officials have renewed an extreme heat warning, extending the "code red" declaration through June 25 at 7 p.m.

The declaration had originally been issued for Sunday and Monday, June 22-23.

The high is expected to be 99 on Monday and 100 on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. The heat index could soar to 105 with boiling humidity still lingering in the region.

County officials described the weather as potentially life-threatening, especially for sensitive groups.

Montgomery County officials say that lower income homes without air conditioning, unsheltered individuals, infants and children, the elderly, physical laborers, those with chronic health conditions, and athletes are all at special risk.

The county has several cooling centers around the region which are open during code reds:
