Fake Sheriff's Deputies Threatening Arrest In Montgomery County

Authorities said the threats, made over the phone, are a scam, and that all incidents should be reported.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Authorities in Montgomery County are warning residents of a scam which involves suspects posing as Sheriff's Office deputies or employees and threatening arrest.

Sheriff Sean P. Kilkenny said on Monday that his office had received several reports of scam calls, with suspects demanding personal information credit card details as payment for nonexistent crimes.

Callers specifically pretended to be Chief Deputy Adam Berry, Kilkenny said.

Many of the victims were residents of Norristown or employees of the Norristown Area School District. However, similar scams have occurred in the surrounding area as well.

Authorities remind residents to never give out personal information over the phone, and to report anything suspicious immediately. If you believe you've been victimized, call the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department at (610) 278-3331.
