Frigid Weather In Philadelphia Area Thanksgiving Week Forecast
Freezing temperatures are on the way to region ahead of Thanksgiving Day.
PHILADELPHIA, PA — Frigid temperatures are predicted to sweep through southeastern Pennsylvania this week ahead of Thanksgiving Day, giving residents a taste of winter weather as the holiday season begins.
Temperatures were forecasted to drop into the low 20s, with a wind chill in the teens, in some parts of the Philadelphia suburbs. A Code Blue cold weather emergency was declared in Montgomery County, indicating that conditions could be dangerous for those without shelter.
“Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” the National Weather Service said. “Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.”

Temperatures will still drop into the high 20s and low 30s in the region Wednesday night, but Turkey Day itself looks to be sunny and relatively balmy, with a high of 55 in Philadelphia.
Those in southeastern Pennsylvania also may want to plan the trip home from Thanksgiving dinner early this year, as there will be a chance of showers after 1 a.m. early Friday morning.
