Gov. Shapiro Appoints New Montgomery Co. Controller

The county has a new head of financial operations following the resignation of elected Controller Karen Geld-Sanchez.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Gov. Josh Shapiro has appointed a new controller for Montgomery County.

Robert R. Hart, the former East Norriton Township manager, was unanimously confirmed for the position last week by the Pennsylvania State Senate.

"Throughout his career, Hart has been a dedicated public servant who brings more than two decades of experience in municipal administration, law, and higher education," the county said in a statement.

As controller, Hart will be responsible for managing the county's general financial operation and business operations.

The office is typically an elected one, but former Controller Karen Geld-Sanchez resigned on Dec. 31, 2024. Acting Controller Tom Landauer had been in the role since.

In addition to his work managing East Norriton, Hart has also served as first deputy in the Montgomery County Treasurer's Office, and is a former Whitemarsh Township Supervisor.
