Hometown Hero Banner For Montco Native, Marine Killed In April
The Montgomery County native and U.S. Marine killed in a military helicopter crash in April was honored Monday with a Hometown Hero banner.
NORRISTOWN, PA — The Montgomery County native and U.S. Marine killed in a military helicopter crash earlier this year was honored Monday with a Hometown Hero banner.
The banner honors Captain Samuel Schultz, a Huntingdon Valley native and graduate of Abington Senior High School. It was unveiled at Montgomery County Courthouse PlazaMonday morning as part of the Veterans Day holiday remembrances.
Schultz was one of four Marines killed April 3 when their chopper went down in the desert near Ocotillo, California, about a two hours' drive east of San Diego.

Schultz joined the Marines in 2012 after enrolling in the Navy ROTC program at Penn State. He is the 18th Montgomery County native who died serving the nation to receive a Hometown Heroes banner since Sept. 11, 2001.

The unveiling of the banner included a rifle salute, the playing of Taps, and fly-over by two CH-53 Super Stallions, the craft flown by Schultz in the Marines.
Montgomery County Gold Star family members Mary MacFarland, Rose Corr, Rhonda Worthington, and Andi Sibley laid wreaths as part of the ceremony.
