'I Was Going To Die': Norristown Shelter Shares Success Story
"I used to steal (scrap metal), now I work 14 hours a day."

The Norristown Hospitality Center, the borough’s only full-time day homeless shelter, recently shared a moving story of one of the individuals it served.
The individual was at a rough point in their life, describing herself as an “alcoholic” and running out of places to turn:
I came here with a gun. I was looking for a man who was hitting on my kids. Staff member told me to take the gun back to Phila ( where I lived). They really helped me. I was an alcoholic. I was in the hospital dying and Jesus came through the doctor and told me I was going to die if I didn’t stop drinking. God turned me around. I had my last drink in 2011. I used to steal (scrap metal), now I work 14 hours a day. I appreciate the help I needed at the time. I met my fiance here. Now I come here to socialize...maybe I can help someone else.
