The 76ers may be without their biggest star when they open the first round of the playoffs this weekend at Wells Fargo Center.

"It's possible," general manager Elton Brand told reporters Wednesday night, when asked if Embiid would be on the court for Game 1. But he also added that he's "optimistic" Embiid will be ready, according to NBC Philadelphia's John Clark.

It's unwelcome and even alarming news for Sixers fans, who assumed that Embiid's lessened workload in the second half would have prepared him better to be at full strength for the postseason.

Yet still, Brand's words are ambiguous, and it could just be some careful hedging leading up to the most important weeks of Embiid's career thus far — and the most important weeks of the Process as whole.

The Sixers, as the three seed, will host the sixth-seeded Brooklyn Nets at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
