Late-Night Thief Broke Into Vehicles In Upper Merion, Frito Lay Warehouse: Cops

Plain clothes officers hid in the Valley Forge Homes neighborhood and caught him in the act overnight, police said.

UPPER MERION, PA — A man who broke into several vehicles in the Valley Forge Homes neighborhood as well as a local Frito Lays warehouse has been arrested, police announced.

The break-ins have occurred over the past several weeks throughout the area, police said.

Investigators found "similarities in the attempts and in the time frame" of the incidents, and set up a plain clothes surveillance detail during the suspected time.

At around 12:53 a.m. on Aug. 28, they spotted the man walking up the driveways of homes on the 300 block of Kingwood Road.

The 32-year-old man, who was not identified by police, was arrested and charged with several counts of theft from a motor vehicle and loitering and prowling at night. He also had existing warrants for theft.

The night before, the Frito Lay facility, which is located nearby on 260 Hansen Access Road, discovered clothing and ID cards in an unused portion of their warehouse, which police believe belonged to the man.

The suspect was booked at Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail. A preliminary hearing is forthcoming.
