The investigation uncovered that the man was a lifetime registered sex offender.
UPPER MERION, PA — A man who set up a date with a woman online tried to rape her at a King of Prussia hotel earlier this month, police said on Tuesday.

The website the woman used was known to authorities as a site that "facilitiates prostitution," Upper Merion Police said.

The woman yelled for help and hotel staff arrived, causing the man to flee the scene, police said.
A hotel staff member was able to grab the man's license plate as he fled, and police were able to track him down in Quakertown a short while later.
When arrested, the man admitted to his actions and said that he had no intention of paying the woman, police said.
Further investigation revealed the man was a lifetime registered sex offender.
He was charged with attempted rape, indecent assault, unlawful restraint, burglary, and related counts. He was booked at Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
A preliminary hearing is forthcoming.
