Man Uses Stolen Tesla To Steal $3,500 From KOP Wegmans: Police

The man stole thousands in items from the local Wegmans on numerous occasions.

UPPER MERION, PA — A Tesla stolen in New Jersey and used in thousands of dollars of thefts from a Montgomery County supermarket was recovered by police during a recent traffic stop, they said this week.

The Tesla was stolen from Maple Shade in Burlington County, New Jersey earlier in May, authorities said.

Police said the man driving the Tesla used it on multiple trips to the Wegmans in the King of Prussia Town Center, where he stole nearly $3,500 in grocery items on multiple occassions.

Authorities caught up to him after he ran a red light at South Henderson Road and West Church Road on Friday, May 12, police said.

They discovered the connection to the stolen vehicle when they checked the vehicle's temporary New Jersey paper registration.

The driver, who was not identified by police, was taken to Montgomery County Correctional Facility. He's been charged with theft, receiving stolen items, and related counts.
