PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Phillies' scheduled game Monday night against the New York Yankees has been postponed over the coronavirus concerns after several Miami Marlins players tested positive over the weekend, the league announced. The Phillies had just hosted the Marlins for a three-game set to open the season.

The league has also postponed the scheduled Marlins vs. Baltimore Orioles game Monday night. Both the Phillies and the Marlins personnel will undergo testing before resuming play.

The news comes just days into the new, significantly abbreviated 60-game MLB season, which opened Thursday. At least 14 members of the Marlins organization, including a dozen players, have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the New York Times. There were several cases of coronavirus in the training camps in recent weeks, but this marks the first outbreak of the young season.

Members of the Marlins team are self-quarantining while they await results of testing, the league said in a statement. The Phillies have not announced any new positive test results.

"Major League Baseball has been coordinating with the Major League Baseball Players Association; the Marlins; the Orioles; the Marlins’ weekend opponent, the Phillies; and Club medical staffs, and will continue to provide updates as appropriate," the statement reads.

It remains unclear if the Phillies vs. Yankees game will take place as scheduled Tuesday. It's also not known how the league will make up the postponed game. The Phillies have just four days clear on the schedule in August, and two in September.

The Phillies are sanitizing the opponent clubhouse at Citizens Bank Park, which the Marlins occupied over the weekend.

The Marlins took two of three games from the Phillies in the season-opening series.
