Montco Bank Teller Saves Elderly Customer From Scam: Cops

A scammer told the elderly woman to keep him on the line on her cell phone while she withdrew a large amount of money.

TOWAMENCIN, PA — Police in Towamencin are warning residents to be on the lookout after a bank teller recently helped save a local elderly resident from a scam.

On Friday, July 19, the elderly woman asked to withdraw a large amount of money from the bank, police said.

She told the teller that her social security number had been "compromised" and that she had to pay a large sum in order to fix it.

Fortunately, the teller recognized that as a scam, notified the police, and the woman did not lose her money.

The victim was told the keep the line open on her cell phone as she withdrew the cash, police said. However, they said the "agent" was not interested in speaking with police.
