NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County has become the first county in the United States to ever receive a rare and significant award from Canada.

The county was honored with the Maple Leaf Award from the Consulate General of Canada in New York this week, recognizing the key importance of the trade partnership between the county and America's neighbor to the north.

Previously, only states have been awarded this honor, and the Canadian Consulate in New York covers Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Bermuda, and New York.

"The trade partnership is vital, and is a sign of Montco leading nationally with our neighbor to the north," the county shared in a statement. "Pretty cool, eh?"

Montgomery County alone exported some $1 billion in goods to Canada in 2024, and provided about $229 million in various services in the pharma, tech, and agricultural fields, among others.
