Montco To Begin 'Tiered Reopening' Of County Parks

Montgomery County parks will begin officially reopening this week. Here's the schedule:

NORRISTOWN, PA — With Montgomery County now in the yellow phase and coronavirus cases coming down steadily, officials have announced a schedule for the reopening of county parks. Officially, the county's parks have been closed for months now since the outbreak began in mid-March.

The "tiered reopening" plan will begin this week. The plan was created based on CDC measures, as well as recommendations from the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society, Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh said.

  • June 10: Norristown Farm Park
  • June 15: Lock 60, Green Lane Park, Upper Schuylkill Valley Park, and Central Perkiomen Valley Park
  • June 22: Lower Perkiomen Park and Lorimer Park

Norristown Farm Park will be the first to formally reopen on Wednesday. The park office is open by appointment only, and one restroom will open. All indoor areas and pavilions are closed.

At Green Lane Park, fishing will be permitted, the county said. The boat launch will open at 6 a.m. on that morning of June 15.

The county said that all rental lease fees for 2020 will be credited for the 2021 season, and to contact the park directly for details and questions on individual cases.

All park-goers should continue to follow social distancing protocols.

As of Tuesday, Montgomery County is at an average of 74 new cases per day over the last 14 days, down from an average of 94 on May 27. The county has seen 725 deaths and 7,516 total coronavirus cases.
