A burglar who unknowingly broke into a police detective’s home in Cheltenham has been sentenced to 11 to 22 years in state prison, according to a report by The Pottstown Mercury.
David Cooper, 49, broke into the home of a 17-year-old veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department at about 11:35 a.m. on August 20, 2014 along New Second Street in Cheltenham, according to the report.
The detective and his youngest child were picking up dinner when a man kicked down the back door, the report states.

The detective saw the suspect walking away from the house, and after he made sure his children were safe, he went after the suspect, according to the report.
The cop found the suspect near Oak Lane Road and Asbury Avenue and subdued him until Cheltenham police arrived, the report states.
