Montco Deputies, Plymouth EMTs Recognized For Heroism By FBI

The prestigious FBI Medal for Meritorious Achievement was given to local first responders and deputies for their response.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Five Montgomery County sheriff's deputies and four Plymouth Ambulance first responders have been recognized by the FBI during a special ceremony for their outstanding heroism during an explosives training incident back two years ago.

The group recently traveled to FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C. to receive the prestigious FBI Medal for Meritorious Achievement.

The incident occurred on Sept. 15, 2022.

The FBI was working with the Pennsylvania State police and Montgomery County Bomb Squad in Plymouth Township on a class called "Post Blast Investigators."

Bomb technicians were placing devices outside of a vehicle when one unexpectedly went off, officials said.

Five technicians, members of the Pennsylvania state police force and the FBI, were injured.

In their commendation, the FBI said that "immediate action" was taken by Plymouth Ambulance responders and sheriff's deputies.

The group was able to swiftly treat and transport the injured individuals and save their lives.

“The very best of our community responded with amazing calm and professionalism the day of the training accident," FBI Special Agent Michael Ruibal said in a statement. "Their combined efforts that day, as well as the days and months which have followed have been truly inspirational."

The individuals who were awarded included Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Corporals Andrew Noto, Timothy Metz and Ryan Volk, Deputies Zachary DeSanto and Miranda Kapusta, Plymouth Ambulance Chief Thomas Trojansky, Battalion Chief Matt Wells, and emergency medical technicians Shaun Semmeles and Sabine Homa.

FBI Special Agents Eric Young, Brian Corcoran and Jared Witmier also received the commendation.
