Montco Extends Severe Heat Warning

The county's "Code Red" will now run through Saturday evening as more extreme heat batters the region.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Amid another stretch of brutal heat, Montgomery County officials have extended the county's Code Red severe heat warning through Saturday evening.

The Code Red will now expire at 6 p.m. on July 29.

"Such conditions can be deadly, and residents should take precautions to prevent heat-related stress and exhaustion," the county said in announcing the Code Red.

In Montgomery County, residents are urged to check on the most vulnerable residents, particularly those with severe medical conditions.

The county has services available to the public, specifically to those vulnerable residents who are most at-risk, including the elderly, young children, and the homeless. If you need emergency shelter, call the Your Way Home Call Center at 2-1-1, or text your zip code to 898-211.

Health officials have the following advice for residents to weather the weather:

  • Drink plenty of non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing
  • If at all possible, try to get outdoor work completed in the morning to avoid the warmest part of the day
  • Keep windows and interior doors open when running a fan at home
  • Keep cool by seeking an air-conditioned building, such as a mall, library, or senior center if available. If not, seek rest in the shade
