Montco To Install 12 Mail-In Ballot Drop Off Boxes Ahead Of Primary Election

County sheriffs will deliver the boxes to the voter services office daily, and each site will be staffed with a county official.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County officials will install 12 mail-in ballot drop off boxes around the county ahead of the primary election next month.

Boxes will be open starting Saturday, May 6 at 8 a.m., and will remain open through the closure of polls at 8 p.m. on May 16, primary election day.

"Registered voters can cast their ballot by mail, at a satellite office or in person on Election Day," Montgomery County Commisioner Ken Lawrence said. "The deadline to register for this election is May 1, 2023. The deadline to request a mail-in or absentee ballot for this election is May 9, 2023. Our goal is to continue to make voting accessible, secure, and convenient for all our residents."

Mail-in ballot boxes have figured prominently in local elections since the pandemic, and have set off a storm of controversy from some figures on the right who claim they are not secure. However, local officials and leaders say that the boxes are completely secure, and that voter education staff will be on hand to help ensure voters know proper ballot return procedures.

Ballot boxes will be delivered daily by county sheriffs to the Montgomery County voter services office.
