Artificial Intelligence In Montgomery County: New Board Created
Montgomery County is launching a new initiative across the public and private sectors.
NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County has launched a new county government advisory council focused on artificial intelligence and its growing role in the public sphere.
The council on "AI for Public Good" comes into fruition as technologies rapidly improve, in some cases too fast for regulatory bodies to keep up with them.
County leaders say they're optimistic.

“AI tools can help us prepare for floods and storms, reduce traffic congestion, and make government more efficient and accessible," Commissioner Neil Makhija said in a statement. "But it has to be done right—and that means ethics, transparency, and public trust. Together with experts from around the county, we can harness technology that allows us to work smarter.”
The new council, which is now recruiting members, will bring together between 7 and 15 difference experts from across the private sector, academia, public service, and nonprofits, the county said.

The role of the body will be to guide an inter-departmental group of county employees in "deploying artificial intelligence responsibly and ethically."
Concerns over the implementation of AI have ranged widely from privacy issues and security to impacts on education, learning, and depletion of replaced skills.
Officials say that they aim to deploy AI in all fields, including smart governance, finance, public safety, health and human services, and regulatory compliance.
