Montco Readies For Pride Month With Flag Raising, Panel, More
The county has a slate of events planned to honor Pride month, starting with a special flag raising ceremony.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County has a full slate of events planned for Pride month in June, starting with a special raising of the pride flag at the county courthouse.
That event will take place on Monday, June 3 at 10 a.m.
“Pride Month is an opportunity for us to acknowledge and celebrate our diversity as a County, as well as to recognize the hardships and discrimination the LGBTQ community has faced over the decades," Montgomery County Commissioner Jamila Winder said in a statement.

June 1 is the 54th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, which took place in New York in June 1969 and are widely seen as a catalyst for the LGBTQ movement.
Then on June 12 at noon, the county will host a panel discussion on Zoom focusing on LGBTQ issues. The event, "Reflecting our History, Empowering our Voices, Uniting our Communities" will feature Montgomery County Clerk of Courts Lori Schrieber, activist Mo Selkirk, and executive director of the Fraternal Order of Police Tom Wines.

The county also highlighted its name changing service, offered through the prothonotary's office.
