Montco Scammers, Posing As Cops, Demand Payment For Missed Jury Duty

The newest scam features fake police officers demanding Montgomery County residents pay up for missing jury duty.

UPPER MERION, PA — Scammers are pretending to be law enforcement officers in Montgomery County and demanding payment for a claimed "failure to appear" for jury duty, authorities said.

The scammer typically claims that the victim has a warrant out for their arrest, and threaten imminent arrest is payment is not immediately made.

"Law enforcement agencies will never call you directly to demand payment or threaten arrest," the Upper Merion Police Department said in a statement. "These calls are scams, and you should not provide any personal or financial information to the caller, even if the number looks legitimate."

Police urge residents to contact local police directly if concerned about the legitimacy of a warrant.
