Montco Scammers Threatening Residents Over Missed Court Dates
Scammers demand payment in gift cards and Bitcoin, officials said.
NORRISTOWN, PA — The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office is warning residents about an uptick in scams around the area.
Numerous reports have come in over recent weeks involving phone and email scammers who are demanding payments over fake "missed court dates."
The scammers direct victims to pay fines using gift cards, prepaid debit cards, or Bitcoin, all of which authorities said are hallmarks of scams that residents should be aware of.

Threats come in as voicemails, recorded calls, emails, and direct calls.
"These are not legitimate notifications," the DA's office said. "If you receive a suspicious message or call, do NOT reply, contact the Courthouse directly."
