NORRISTOWN, PA — Sgt. Mark Huzzard got the call over the radio: a one-year-old child was choking to death.
The date was May 15. Huzzard, a Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy, was a block north of the location, near the intersection of Noble and West Airy Streets and Norristown, when he heard what was happening.
Huzzard, along with his partner, activated their emergency lights and sirens and sped to the scene.

When they got inside, they found the child was already turning blue and was unresponsive.
Huzzard then took the child from her mother and began doing the Heimlich maneuver, police said. After repeating the maneuver several times, the child vomited, and soon began breathing regularly again.

A few minutes later an ambulance arrived to care for the youngster, but by then, had it not been for Huzzard, it may have been too late.
During a ceremony Thursday, Huzzard was honored with a life-saving commendation by Montgomery County Sheriff Sean Kilkenny.
Excellent work, Sgt. Huzzard!
