Montgomery County Businesses Get $5 Million In Coronavirus Relief

Small businesses around the county have received a $5 million boost as the coronavirus closures continue to hamper the local economy.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County businesses have received $5 million more in financial relief as the coronavirus outbreak and associated closures continue to wreak havoc on the local economy.

The funding was made available to small operations around the county through the MontcoStrong Small Business Grant Program.

The funding has not yet been disbursed; small businesses still must apply and have their applications approve.

“We recognized the continued need to provide support to support our local businesses and communities,” Montgomery County Commissioner Ken Lawrence said in a statement. "We want to thank the Delaware Valley Regional Economic Development Fund for their support of Montgomery County’s small businesses.”

It's a highly competitive process.The county has received 1,520 applications requesting $33.8 million in aid. A total of 43 grants have been approved thus far, for a sum of $997,443 in funding.

Eligible businesses can have a maximum of 30 employees.

Officials are aiming to place a "greater emphasis" on supporting minority, women, and veteran-owned businesses.

Applications for round 2 will open at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 13 and continue until 6 p.m. that evening.
