Montgomery County Declares Disaster Emergency Ahead Of Storm

Breaking: A Disaster Emergency has been declared in Montgomery County as the region braces for its second severe storm of the past week.

A Disaster Emergency has been declared in Montgomery County as the region braces for its second severe winter storm of the past week. The Emergency will got into effect at 7 p.m. Tuesday and will run through 3 a.m. on Thursday, March 8.

Much of the county is expected to receive anywhere from six to 12 inches of snow, and some forecast models are calling for even more. Points north and west could receive up to 18 inches.

The declaration makes additional resources available for the county to handle the storm, including state grant money to help cover the cost of storm cleanup.

"The Montgomery County Department of Public Safety stands ready to support and coordinate with first
responders and assist residents of Montgomery County during the winter storm," said Val Arkoosh, Chair of the Montgomery County Commissioners, in a statement.

Residents are reminded to call 911 only for emergencies that require police, fire, or EMS personnel. Residents should call their utility if they have a power outage: 1-800-841-4141 for PECO, 1-800-342-5775 for PPL, and 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) for First Energy.
