Telecommunicators require only a high school diploma, along with "excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills," a Pennsylvania driver's license, and typing ability, according to the job announcement.

New hires must pass through a training class before beginning work.
A recent report from NBC10 highlighted the shortage, and indicated both the rewarding and demanding aspects of the job. Operators must be able to handle high pressure, life and death situations gracefully and accurately.
