Montgomery County Names Two New Deputy Sheriffs

NORRISTOWN, PA – There's a few new (deputy) sheriffs in town.

Montgomery County Sheriff Sean P. Kilkenny and Chief Deputy T. Michael Beaty welcomed two new deputies during a swearing-in ceremony at the courthouse in Norristown recently.

“As we begin to look at another round of applicants next week, we will continue to focus on bringing in the absolute best and motivated candidates to serve our diverse county population,” Kilkenny said in a statement.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Lower Gwynedd resident Sylvester Gomes is a graduate of the Montgomery County Community College Police Academy and is a U.S. Army National Guard infantry sergeant, who has earned the U.S. Army Achievement Medal, U.S. Army Reserve Component Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and other awards. Gomes also served as a U.S. Marine Corps Reserves machine gunner, and is a graduate of Abington Senior High School.

Dep. Kayla Oelschlager is a graduate of Upper Perkiomen High School, where she played lacrosse and was the captain of the water polo team. Oelschlager is also a certified veterinary assistant and resides in Pennsburg, the Sheriff said.
