NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County has announced plans to open a community COVID-19 vaccine clinic next week.

The clinic, slated to open on Wednesday, Jan. 9, will administer doses for those in the state Department of Health's "1A" priority category. It will open at Montgomery County Community College's campus in Blue Bell.

Meanwhile, thousands of residents are eagerly waiting their turn.

"Please be patient," Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh said Wednesday. "I know there's an awful lot of people who want to get vaccinated as quick as possible. The great limiting factor here will be how much vaccine the county receives."

The site will have the capability to offer 1,000 vaccine doses per day. It's not yet clear if that site will continue to serve as a vaccine clinic once the vaccine becomes available for other priority groups and, eventually, the general public.

The 1A priority group includes all healthcare and EMS workers. That counts dentists, home healthcare workers, personal care home workers, psychiatric hospital employees, and ambulance drivers and medics.

The Montgomery County Community College clinic is also open to those who do have access to the vaccine through their workplace, or who do related work on a volunteer basis, officials said.

As of Thursday afternoon, Montgomery County has seen more than 6,657 individuals receive partial doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 115,291 doses have been administered statewide.

Those looking to be vaccinated can take a screening test online to see if they fit. They'll then be sent a link to register and schedule an appointment.
