Heroin Trafficking Ring Busted in Montco

The drugs had an estimated street value of $13,000.

POTTSTOWN, PA - A heroin trafficking ring was recently busted in Montgomery County, the district attorney’s office announced Monday.

Two individuals, Melissa Griffin and Dashawn Smith, were arrested in connection to the drug ring, the DA said.

Investigators were already looking into Smith and his connection to heroin sales when West Pottsgrove police responded to a E. Vine Street incident in Stowe on November 28, where Smith allegedly burglarized the residence and put a gun to the head of Griffin, his then ex-girlfriend.

Following extensive surveillance on Smith, law enforcement attempted to arrest him in Pottstown on December 17, according to the DA.

Griffin was captured immediately but Smith attempted to escape. Two police officers were injured during the chase which eventually resulted in his arrest.

During the execution of multiple search warrants in Pottstown and Stowe on properties used by the couple, law enforcement found 1,291 bags of heroin, more than $5,000 in cash, a taser, and five cell phones.

The estimated street value of the heroin is $13,000.

Both are scheduled for a hearing on January 12.
