Naked Man Hit By Police Vehicle In Norristown, Officer Placed On Leave

A Norristown Police vehicle struck the man at Stanbridge and West Airy streets Wednesday. Local officials said the officer is on leave now.

NORRISTOWN, PA — A Norristown Police officer is on leave after officials said they struck a naked man who was vandalizing vehicles at a local intersection Wednesday.

Local officials said the man was naked and obstructing traffic at a signalized intersection around Stanbridge and West Airy streets in Norristown Wednesday morning.

According to officials, the man was standing in the road after vandalizing a parked vehicle, striking passing vehicles, and creating a dangerous situation for motorists, pedestrians, and himself.

As officers were arriving to the area, one of the police vehicles struck the man, knocking him down, officials said. This was captured on video and shared on social media.

Video of the incident shows the man being sent airborne when he was struck by the vehicle, being thrown several feet before hitting the ground.

"The events depicted in this video are very concerning, and a full investigation is underway," a statement from the borough said.

The man was detained and given medical attention. His condition is unknown.

Authorities said the striking officer has been placed on administrative leave. The Montgomery County Detective Bureau is handling the incident as a use of force investigation.

"We recognize that this incident is concerning to our community," the statement reads. "Our priority remains the safety and well-being of all residents, including individuals experiencing crises. Out of dignity and respect for the subject, we ask the public to share the video with county detectives as part of their investigation."
