New $6 Million Senior Care Center To Break Ground In Norristown

Breaking: A new senior medical center will break ground in Norristown this week.

NORRISTOWN, PA — A new senior medical center will break ground in Norristown this week.

The Mercy Life Norristown facility will be located on 1430 Dekalb Street, less than a mile from Montgomery County Courthouse and the Norristown Transportation Center.

The new center, run by Mercy Health System, will be a daytime operation, offering "medical, nutritional, social, and spiritual services" to patients over the age of 55.

Patients will be given transportation from their homes to the facility and back home again, officials said.

The center represents a $6 million investment in Norristown, after the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Office of Long Term Living designated the property to Mercy in Feb. 2017.

Mercy also plans to open a PACE center, which aims to assist the elderly in living at home, at some point in 2018 in Norristown.

The groundbreaking event will take place on April 25. Several local dignitaries, including Norristown Councilwoman Valerie Scott Cooper and Rep. Matt Bradford are expected to attend.
