Norristown Appoints 2 New, Temporary Municipal Council Members

Norristown's governing body is in a state of flux.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Norristown appointed two new temporary municipal council members during a meeting this week, filling gaps left by recently resigned officials.

The seats will be held by the temporary appointees until May 20, when Norristown will hold a special election for candidates to fill each seat through Dec. 31, 2027.

The new members are Jasmine Griffen, who fills the at-large vacancy, and Natalie Colson, who fills the fourth district seat.

Councilwoman Rebecca Smith noted that the meeting, which also honored firefighter Brian Drenne for his heroism and Lisa Bobyock, the director of Keep Norristown Beautiful, as "full of powerful moments and new beginnings."

Councilman Thomas Lepera resigned in February, while Councilwoman Lauren Hughes resigned in March to run for judge of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas this fall.
