Norristown Boy Collects More Than 800 Pounds Of Litter

Called a "true warrior" by local advocates, Norristown 9-year-old ​Grayson McCoy has been recognized for his work with a special award.

NORRISTOWN, PA — A Norristown boy is among just two students across all of Pennsylvania to be recognized with a special award from Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, acknowledging his herculean efforts to clean up his community.

Grayson Anthony McCoy, 9, received the Tomorrow Youth Award earlier this week. It's presented to an outstanding resident under the age of 18 who has "demonstrated commitment to keeping their community clean and beautiful."

Specifically, Grayson helped collect more than 800 pounds of litter throughout more than 30 cleanups around Norristown.

"He is known for encouraging other neighborhood children to join his cleanup efforts, inspiring teamwork and community pride," the municipality of Norristown shared in a statement honoring Grayson Friday.

Grayson also helped the community volunteering at "Make Your Own Rain Barrel Workshops," and he created a "Fishing for Litter" game for Norristown's National Night Out that engaged many of his young peers.

“He is a true warrior when it comes to picking up litter and spreading the word to his friends and neighbors," Keep Norristown Beautiful director Lisa Bobyock said of Grayson.
