Norristown Community Rallies For Thanksgiving Fire Victims

Some 40 people lost their homes after the devastating blaze in Norristown last week. The community is stepping up in a big way.

NORRISTOWN, PA — The greater Norristown area community has stepped up in a big way to support the numerous families who lost their homes in the fire last week.

About 40 residents were left homeless by the blaze, which struck on the 700 block of West Lafayette Street on Thanksgiving Eve. The cause is not known and authorities are continuing to investigate.

But in the meantime, a band of nonprofits, officials, and members of the community have come together to support the victims.

The Blessing Store has also provided free clothing items to victims, many of whom lost everything in the blaze.

Ebenezer Methodist Church made them warm Thanksgiving meals.

And other supplies like diapers, toys, and snacks have been provided thanks to donations from the community.

"Grateful for our community’s incredible support after the devastating Lafayette Street fire," said State Rep. Greg Scott, who has organized much of the relief. "Together, we’ve made real progress. Thank you to the Norristown Fire Department and all partners who stepped up. Your compassion and generosity inspire hope for these families as they rebuild."
