Norristown Father, Daughter Pass Away On Same Day
Norristown's Andy Cottonaro and his daughter Andrea Smith passed away on the same day this week.

NORRISTOWN, PA -- Andrew (Andy "Cotton") Cottonaro, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at home on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 after an illness at the age of 92. That was the same day his daughter Andrea Cottonaro Smith suddenly passed as well and they are both in heaven together. Born July 25, 1924 in Norristown, Pa he was the son of the late Joseph and Biagina (Cacio) and was the husband of his beloved wife Rita (Guardino) Cottonaro and would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this September16th.

In addition to his beloved wife, Mr. Cottonaro is survived by his two loving daughters - Gina A. Cottonaro (Dixie Walker) and Eleanor Cottonaro (Cheryl Weingartner) and son-in law, Tom Smith; 4 grandchildren: Nickolas (Alexa) Weingartner, Derek Smith, Valerie Smith, and Andrew Smith. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, especially his niece Bettyann Cottonaro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Ephipanio (Abey), Tony (Frances) three sisters Mary (Anthony) Salamone, Frances Aceto and Rose (who died in infancy) and niece Angela Aceto Miller. A graduate of Norristown High in 1943, Andrew extended his education with degrees from the Gibson Institute of Accounting and Commercial Law in 1947, and the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania school in 1985. He entered the service in 1943, with assignment overseas in December of 1943, serving in New Guinea and the Philippines, receiving numerous medals, including three Bronze stars. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he held the rank of Technical Corporal, fifth grade. After leaving the service, he got his first job at Webb Manufacturing beginning his career as a cost clerk. He progressed steadily, holding the titles of controller and group controller, before being promoted to Vice President. His major clients included Peerless Steel, Webb Manufacturing, Philco Ford and the Bunting Company. At the same time, he operated a private accounting firm at home.

After retiring in 1985 from John Wood, he opened his own accounting practice in Norristown, which he owned and operated for 15 years. After selling the firm, he retired a second time, and operated a small accounting service for close friends and family from his home. His love was his work and he worked up until this year performing accounting services. He held family dear and had unconditional love for them especially his grandchildren. He traveled the world visiting Italy on several occasions to his family's home town of Burgio. The family went on several cruises together and the most important memories were the family dinners on the ship.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (third and fourth degree), the Catholic War Veterans (where he was a trustee and served on the Board of Directors), the Holy Savior Senior Citizens (where he also served on the Board of Directors), the National Association of Accountants, the National Association of Controllers and the National Associations of Vice Presidents. His celebration of life will be held along with his daughter, Andrea Smith, on Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 4 - 8 pm at Holy Saviour Church, 407 E. Main St., Ntn., PA 19401. There will not be any calling time on Monday, May 1, 2017, but all are invited to attend their funeral Mass at 10 am. Burial St. Patrick's Cemetery, 2400 DeKalb Pike, E Norriton, PA 19401. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Coatesville VA Medical Center, 1400 Blackhorse Hill Rd., Coatesville, PA 19320.

NORTH WALES, PA -- Andrea (Cottonaro) Smith passed away surrounded by family and friends on April 25, 2017. She was welcomed into Heaven on the same day as her late father, Andrew Cottonaro. She was a dedicated wife and beautiful mother. She is survived by her beloved mother Rita (Guardino) Cottonaro, her husband Tom Smith, her children Derek, Valerie and Andrew and sisters Gina (Fred "Dixie" Walker) Cottonaro, Eleanor (Cheryl Weingartner) Cottonaro and her loving puppy Cooper.
Andrea was a beautician, owning her salon called Textures, in Lansdale. She lived her life to the fullest and truly was a devoted friend to all and loved her family endlessly. Tom and his children would like to thank the medical professionals at Abington-Jefferson Hospital who cared for Andrea over these past few days.
Her celebration of life will be held along with her father, Andrew Cottonaro, on Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 4 8 pm at Holy Saviour Church, 407 E. Main St., Ntn., PA 19401.
